The Newbold College Campus

Newbold’s campus occupies 90 acres in Binfield, Berkshire, England, about 40 miles west of central London. The closest towns are Bracknell, about 1 1/2 miles east, and Wokingham, about 3 miles west. Each town has shopping centres and a train station. There is easy access to London’s commercial centres and airports, with Heathrow about a 40-minute transport from Bracknell station and Gatwick about an hour from Wokingham station.newbold campus

The campus comprises 10 buildings, some of them predating World War II and the college’s ownership of the property. Its location is one steeped in English history. Situated just 12 miles from Windsor Castle in the Royal County of Berkshire, the campus was once part of the royal hunting grounds.

Though centuries have passed since then, the current centrepiece of campus helps Newbold maintain a courtly presence. Moor Close, a neo-Tudor mansion now used as student housing, was built more than 100 years ago, in 1865. In about 1911 millionaire Charles Birch Crisp engaged architect Oliver Hill to enlarge the house and, in subsequent years, add a garden dedicated to Crisp's daughter Sylvia. Hill became famous during the ensuing decades and Moor Close, his first commission, in tandem with Sylvia’s Garden, is now a renowned historical landmark in the region.

Moor Close is at the southern side of central campus. Staff and student accommodation spread into Binfield village, but the main part of campus clusters around a quadrangle, traditional for a British university campus. Salisbury Hall, one of the two campus buildings hosting offices and classrooms, sits at the main entrance. Opposite from it is the other administrative building, Murdoch Hall, on the east half of the quadrangle. Finally, the Newbold College Library completes the square.

Newbold Seventh-day Adventist Church is also located on the College's campus and its worship services are open for all students and community members to attend.  To view the church's official website, click here.
